The war between the PSP vs. the DS Lite has been and will be a long and hard battle for both Sony and Nintendo. Nintendo has always been the god of handhelds. Numerous companies have tried to dethrone Nintendo or even at least take a bit of the handheld market, but all have failed. Some think that because the DS Lite is so powerful, the PSP has no chance, but most handhelds that have come out over the years have been more powerful than Nintendo's handhelds. This time though, it is not some small company going against Nintendo, but Sony.
On one hand, Sony is beefing up the PSP to make it very powerful and very sexy. This also affects the price and may make it as expensive as console launch prices, if not more. This may be suicide with kids, but PSP is being aimed at an older audience who Sony is hoping will fork over a few hundred for its powerful handheld.
Nintendo is trying to keep the DS Lite at a lower price and at a bit of a younger audience. Although the price may be lower, this does not equal a lack of innovation. The DS Lite's graphical power is weaker than the PSP, but it has a few key innovative features. First of all, it has two screens and one of them is a touch screen. If this is a success, we can expect great things with two screens.
